Friends - Imaginary and Real !

Friends be it real or imaginary do add colour to our life, ain't they ?

"Your friend is the man who knows all about you, and still likes you."
-- Elbert Hubbard

I happened to read  this topic on imaginary friends , somewhere online  sorry i dont have the link for that . It was about children having imaginary friends.

As a matter of fact it is a lovely concept ..  for i did have imaginary friends and do have too :).

Friends are really the best people one can have in his/her lifetime. We meet strangers in life right since our birth and sometimes we develop a special bond with them and they become an inseparable part of our life. We may lose contacts with them in person but surely those memories would remain evergreen. Why would one need a friend ? One needs a friend to share , care and be with when everything goes awry , and when everything goes beautiful ! To say happily that i have won the nobel prize , i have got married , i have published a book , released an album !! well we would love to share that with friends .. * yes vodafone ads these days say the same. :)

Friends are wanted and searched for when one feels low , one wants a shoulder to weep , to feel the strength with the hands held together conveying the message in silence that '' come what may , i will be there for you'!

One could have many friends but would be blessed with  only very special few and that is life .

Be it real friends or imaginary they do add more spice and joy to one's life.

Btw what or who is an imaginary friend. Any one who is not there , who cant be touched  felt and seen by others are imaginary :D simple yes . Some say God , is my friend. Yes , imaginary yet again , not that God doesnt exist, He is there for sure ! but not all see and feel Him , so if i say He is my friend then it means He is there for me , i can feel Him .. see Him the way i want :)

Some say Diary is their friend and they share their life , moments and memories by writing , scribbling , prattling ...

Children are innocent and are so pure at heart ( so were we as kids) and hence they just talk to some one out of their thoughts like being and enacting as teacher , they teach their students who dont exist ! :) As we grow, though few of us continue our bond with imaginary friend, we dont explicitly show that to the world because it would be called craziness! also known that once we start school life and get ''real'' friends then the imaginary fades away .

Having imaginary friends is a real good thing . Studies reveal that as kids , if they have imaginary friends , they tend to increase and develop the linguistic talent and converstational abilities. It is not just for that , imaginary friends help one in reasoning out , gives more confidence , makes one ask more questions and yes helps one search for reasons.

As adults , once we feel that imaginary friends dont exist , may be that s when we start losing the child in us . I dont know if i am right or wrong but i do accept i do have imaginary friends and i love them too. Well it neednt be a person , it neednt be any particular character , lots of friends and imaginary friends are there with me even when i am alone .. where ever be it .

I remeber as a kid , a big red teddy bear was my best friend, i used to talk to him (dont know why i thought he was he :D ). Then came the boy in the sailing boat , then it was small puppy( not real ) i still have that sailing boat boy had named him Johny, yes a name that was from the nursery rhyme.

Then slowly with the path unfolding ... that is me growing in the way of life , graduating and now working  i still have imaginary friends. I speak to the stars and i guess they do listen to me , i can sense the trees when the leaves dance and wave , the wind that whispers , the note books where i scribble, the books  i read the God whom i pray , the music .... well even HP !:D

I dont know if this would sound funny and weird but then it is not . It is not that one needs to speak out aloud to the world for the stars and moon and trees to hear , just a thought within one would do . Dont they say music helps in trees and plants growing better and easier ?

Yes imaginary friends are real lovely companions, companions who would be with you even as you sleep .. even the eternal sleep !!

I am sure each of you have friends .. but then must say we are all lucky , lucky ones to be blessed with "TRUE FRIENDS" ( Yes i am blessed one with not just imaginary ones but some best best friends :) ) . Now imaginary or real ... doesnt matter ! :) you have a true friend and then what more do you want ? :)

Day 57: Manjadikuru (The Little Red Seeds)

Do you guys know about Manjadikuru ? They are the little red seeds. For anyone who is from God's own country or is familiar with Kerala wouldn't have missed this. There is something special about holding them, playing with these seeds. Usually, most homes will have a small 'uruli' or a bowl filled with these beautiful and shiny red seeds. In most Krishna temples in Kerala, you will come across a small 'uruli' with Manjadikuru. People believe that it is lucky to take these seeds with both hands and just play with them when you visit a temple. Some even leave a couple of coins as they do this.  In Guruvayoor (my favorite place), you can see a big 'uruli' with manjadi.

So, why and how did this become prevalent ? It goes back to a story from the past. Many years ago, there lived a poor lady in northern Kerala. She was an ardent devotee of Lord Guruvayoorappan (Krishna) and always wanted to visit Guruvayoor.  She could not afford to buy any offering (nived…

Day 307: Happy Chingam !

Today is Chingam 1 (to be read as onnu). It is the new month according to the lunisolar calendar. This month is also called as Avani and Shravana. So, why is this month special?  This month marks the beginning of the festival season back home and the it is fun to have small celebrations through the months until  mid- December. It is also the month of Onam (Harvest festival in Kerala).

The first festival we have this month is the 'sacred thread' changing ceremony for men/boys who wear that. This is followed by usually the birthday of little Krishna and then the elephant-head god, Ganesha. Then comes Onam followed by the beautiful month of Navaratri or Durga Pooja. So, the big set of festival season is here and here is a wish to all of you on Chingam 1. Wishing you all blessed and excellent months ahead. Have fun!

Day 315 : What's on your bucket list?

Bucket List. A term that has become popular much after the famous movie with the same title in 2007. The term would have probably taken after the euphemism 'kick the bucket', which was again popularized in the movie, 'It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world'. The 2007 movie was a massive hit and how would it be not? It had Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in the lead. The term was meant to have a list of things you wish you can do before you leave this world.

It is like a goal list that can evolve as you grow and change perspectives in life. I used to have a wish list that worked as a to-do list mostly like a work list for short-term goals. However, off late, I have decided to make one and keep it as an ever evolving list.

The first one on my list as of now (that was from the past too) is to get my biggest degree in life. Hopefully I will tick that one off my list soon.

Do share your thoughts on your list and how do you plan on getting it all checked out.
