Double delight at the Oscars
O 'Day as they call it for our dearest (my dearest :D) A.R.Rahman , for he has won the double delight at Oscars . Hmm by the way , i have a bad habit and most often i dont love to change that too - it is waking up early ! But today I broke that rule and woke up at 5:45 am to be ready for office and also comfortably watch the Oscars at 6:30 am. My wish was to watch the live performance of ARR and his winning the most coveted and very deserving award - OSCAR! But then , all what i could watch was the other nominations and though they were interesting it did not satisfy my heart , for which i was actually waiting was for watching dearest Rahman standing tall with the OSCAR!!! and yes to watch his electrifying performance.
Anyways i was on my way to office and was constantly updated by my dear bro who had bunked college for this :D and while i was almost close to office i got a call from my colleague who was at home watching this amazing show and she was congratulating me !!:D well good feeling you know when i got calls from all friends happy about Rahman , i was in ecstasy because i felt like i knew Rahman sir so well that people were calling to convey wishes to him:) he he i know i know :d phir bhi!
Anyways now i am writing this so excitedly from office ... and i know this moment is just amazing for Rahman has won the best possible actually a long awaited one! Let our music unfold and spread the special fragrance that holds so deeply with the Indian life and culture!
I am also happy for the fact that Kate Winslet has finally got the best actress award too ... :)
:) May God bless you ARR! always and may you take us to that special land that sings only one language of LOVE with your music !!
Take care ....

Day 57: Manjadikuru (The Little Red Seeds)

Do you guys know about Manjadikuru ? They are the little red seeds. For anyone who is from God's own country or is familiar with Kerala wouldn't have missed this. There is something special about holding them, playing with these seeds. Usually, most homes will have a small 'uruli' or a bowl filled with these beautiful and shiny red seeds. In most Krishna temples in Kerala, you will come across a small 'uruli' with Manjadikuru. People believe that it is lucky to take these seeds with both hands and just play with them when you visit a temple. Some even leave a couple of coins as they do this.  In Guruvayoor (my favorite place), you can see a big 'uruli' with manjadi.

So, why and how did this become prevalent ? It goes back to a story from the past. Many years ago, there lived a poor lady in northern Kerala. She was an ardent devotee of Lord Guruvayoorappan (Krishna) and always wanted to visit Guruvayoor.  She could not afford to buy any offering (nived…

Day 207: Malayalam Movie Dialogues: Nadodikkattu "Ethra manoharamaya"

Dasan and Vijayan team is one of the most popular character pair in Malayalam movie fraternity. Every Malayalee will remember the dialogues from these movies. The pair of Lal-Sreenivasan as Dasan - Vijayan just brought (and still bring) smiles and simple joy among movie goers. Between Sathyan Anthikkad and Priyadarshan, there were three movies directed using the same team for the lead pair. With the script written by Sreenivasan himself, these movies have become immortal in the history of Malayalam cinema.
Among the set of 3 movies done using the combination, the first one was 'Nadodikkattu'. The picture that depicts the dialogue is from that movie. The second and third were 'Pattanapravesham' and 'Akkare Akkare Akkare'. Even though each movie was good this one is something very special. The dialogues are so popular that I don't think any of us would 'not' use them in everyday life.
This one given below is by Vijayan (played by Sreenivasan) that s…

Day 307: Happy Chingam !

Today is Chingam 1 (to be read as onnu). It is the new month according to the lunisolar calendar. This month is also called as Avani and Shravana. So, why is this month special?  This month marks the beginning of the festival season back home and the it is fun to have small celebrations through the months until  mid- December. It is also the month of Onam (Harvest festival in Kerala).

The first festival we have this month is the 'sacred thread' changing ceremony for men/boys who wear that. This is followed by usually the birthday of little Krishna and then the elephant-head god, Ganesha. Then comes Onam followed by the beautiful month of Navaratri or Durga Pooja. So, the big set of festival season is here and here is a wish to all of you on Chingam 1. Wishing you all blessed and excellent months ahead. Have fun!
